Brood of the Outerfish pg. 41

So I accidentally screwed up my website a bit when trying to update Wordpress, which is why I didn’t post a page on Thursday.  Currently the only real problem is that the OF WHAT KIND? theme to the site won’t work, so you’ll have to settle for the classic GOOD SHOW SIR! vibe.

Anyway, the first panel on this page was a bit of a learning experience for me, as I wasn’t sure I could pull off the perspective.  But I think it worked out pretty well!

See ya Thursday.

Couldn’t update last week because of teaching responsibilities, but things are getting rollin’ pretty seriously over here, BIG TIME.

This page is working off a pretty weird layout concept, and I had to try and push the colors to guide the reader’s eye. Did it work? COMMENT AND LET ME KNOW.

Also, I’ve been getting back into sketching again, and it feels great. It’s a lot of fun to just draw with no planning and let the pen guide what happens. I did this ORC STAIN fanart drawing in my sketchbook and decided to color it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/84621473@N00/5776370880/in/photostream/

Hey everybody!

Some cool news! CBR’s Comics Should Be Good blog featured OF WHAT KIND? as part of their Month of Webcomic series. It’s a nice little article that hopefully brought some new viewers (maybe even YOU?!?!) to this here comic. If you just started reading, thanks for coming and I hope you enjoy it! Stick around, things are about to get crazy.

Anyway, here’s the article: http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2011/05/18/a-month-of-webcomics-of-what-kind/

This page was a lot of fun to draw, and I banged it out in RECORD TIME.

Perspective is a tricky thing. So, usually, instead of actually doing proper perspective (which I can’t, really), I use magic and trickery to make it look like I’m doing it. Which is what I did here.

I’ve been envisioning this sequence in my head for awhile, and while it isn’t exactly what I’d picture, I like it anyway!

I’m trying to convert my main site (goodshowsir.com) into more of a blog type thing where I’ll also sometimes post non-OWK comics. I’ll let ya know more about that laters.

New page on Thursday.

Lemme know whatcha think!

Hey hey hey.

Alright everybody say bye bye to Principal (for now). FINALLY moving forward with the story, in a big way. Gonna start to get into the real meat of this shiz in the next two weeks. PREPARE.

Watching the ADVENTURE TIME panel from TCAF has me all sorts of hot and bothered about making comics and animations, man. Some seriously talented animators and comickers work on that show, and the love they have for their craft just BEAMS out of every episode. Check out the panel if you’re interested in this kind of nonsense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXKFDF-seMg

Hey all! Last Thursday it was Children’s Day in Korea, which meant a day off for me. While I had every intention of having a page up that day, when I opened Photoshop to begin coloring, it just didn’t feel right. SO I SAID SCREW IT.

Anyway, TCAF just happened, and I wish really badly I could have gone (could somebody invent teleportation already, what’s the hold up?). But, next year this book will be done and printed and maybe I’ll even have some other comics, and I’m gonna hit TCAF like a brick in the face. IT’S GONNA BE GREAT.

Boy do I miss that convention hustle.

Anyway, see ya Thursday (for real!).

So this whole thing is a perfect example of the tangents you find yourself going on when you make comics on the fly. It can make things difficult and complicated to do things this way, but it’s fun little diversions like this that make it all worthwhile.

Not really digging the colors here, might change them a bit. But, I always say that and then never do because I look back a few days later and the colors suddenly work for me.

Anyway, Thursday is coming!

Hey everybody! It’s been weird adapting my coloring to daytime scenery, since most of the story so far has taken place in darker rooms/hallways/caves/townships, etc. So most of my coloring/shading skills have been based around that. But I’m learning how to handle well lit coloring, or so I hope!

I just saw THOR, with Korean subtitles of course, and it was pretty cool! There’s some fairly wonderful world design for Asgard. They do some interesting things with the concept of magic-as-high-science, though it’s only hinted at vaguely in the story and hinted at more-solidly in the world design. But yeah, cool movie! With unfortunately lame shoehorned romance subplot!

See ya Tuesday!

This page took a long time to get finished. Pencils and inks took the normal amount of time, but colors were particularly difficult. I always find the pages with big, open, outdoor spaces to be the hardest to color.

This is a ZIPLINER. It is a silly, impractical vehicle that we will see more of in the coming pages.

Anyway, pleased with this page, especially the top part. Brings the movement and momentum of the last two pages to a close nicely, I hope.

Onwards to Thursday!

Hey gang! Not sure about the coloring on this one, but whenever I feel that way about a page I come back a few days later and end up being pretty happy with it, usually. Coloring is tough but it’s definitely one of the more rewardingly difficult parts of making OF WHAT KIND?.

I wonder about the layout of this page. Is the panel order clear to everyone, or is it a bit muddled? Sometimes when I try something new like this it ends up being a worse idea than I originally think. Can’t tell with this one, so let me know!

So, who is this mysterious enigmatic figure that the metal bird has flown to? WHO KNOWS??!?! I do!

Tuesday, my friends.
